Days Away

Wow... had a sudden urge to listen to Days Away suddenly!

Days Away, new lineup... before the breakup!

Well, what can I say about this band and how much they mean to me?

I think I've seen them all over the United States and I remember, the last time I saw them live in Hatford CT back in 2006 just a few months before I left the States, Tim asked me, "Where do you live anyway?? We see you everywhere?!"

Seriously?

Anyway, Days Away is an awesome awesome band. I got to know them back in 2002 through Finch, when I was randomly downloading all the bands Finch had thanked on their liner notes (Days Away was one of them). So when I got to the States the next year, I went for their shows. The first member I got to know was Chris (the bassist)... and the next was Keith (I still love him hahahaha)... The first show I saw was at the Troubadour back in 2003 and I think that was the Tim's (the drummer) first show with the band... He had REALLLLLLLLLLLY long hair back then!

Anyway, Keith was AWESOME the first time I met him. He walked me all the way to the bus stop on Sunset and when I couldn't get a bus, he got me a cab and told the cab driver where to take me and he even PAID for the cab. Damn... How can you EVER find such a wonderful band?

Anyway, I've always loved Keith but Tim was always the nicest to me. Matt (Austin) was great too. I got Tim's number and Tim would always be really cool to me, like a big brother... And he knows I like Keith, so he always let me have a chance to talk to him ahahahaha... But the whole band is awesome and I spent my 21st birthday with them... And they were nice enough to take me in their van to the next venue too... Awesome you know, just sad I never got to say goodbye to them...

hehe...They signed this at the November 2003 shows at Palladium (with Something Corporate). After their set I had called Keith over, he said he'd be right back, but he never came back (Errr... this was to repeat throughout the time I know them!!). So when I saw them at the merch booth after the show, Keith said "Hello" and I said sarcastically, "Well I'm glad you remember me," and then he said, "Aww.. how can I forget you?". Then I said, "You said you'll come back but you didn't."... So he signed, "Keith loves you" ahahahahaah... Awww damn I really liked him! lols

ANYWAY

But through knowing them, Days Away is the one band that I truly admire for their persistence and for their dedication to the purity of their music. What i mean by this is that they are not sell-outs.

When I was with them for my brithday, Matt (Austin) told me that they got record deals from many labels but they didn't take it cause they wanted control over their music... And at that time, their manager called them, and Keith told me, "We're not gonna be labeled like this or that. We don't want to sound like this band or some other band. If we can't do what we want, we're just gonna say no,"

They just raised themselves up on my book with that one!

And they've always been that way. What I admired so much in Keith was that no matter how small the show, no matter how many people in the crowd, no matter how short the set, he always wanted their sound to be perfect and strived for it. The first question he ALWAYS asked me after the show is, "How did we sound?" And I really give a kudus to them for it.

There's so much more  I can say about Days Away. And I'm really sad they broke up in the end (Although Tim and Keith went on to start another new band)... But I always admired Keith persistence in making music and being in a band... Even after 10 years or 15 years, not getting far, he still persist, and he doesn't sell out.

That's what I loved the most about them.

They were them. And they were great.

Check it, these are two of the many of my fav Days Away songs.
