Bump of Chicken - Hana no Na

  • 0
So, I decided to check Bump of Chicken out...

I know a guy, Nagami-san, who is Tsuyoshi's friend. I actually know Nagami-san because Nagami-san is a HUGE HUGE HUGE Lunkhead fan. He practially goes for almost EVERY lunkhead show in the vicinity of Tokyo. Anyway, Tsuyoshi happened to bump into him when we went for the Lunkhead Force special release live in Shinjuku Tower Records.

I met Nagami-san again in December that year when all three of us went for the Lunkhead show at Ebisu. At that time, I asked him what was his second favourite band, and he told me it was Bump of Chicken.

So I decided to check them out!

Bump is a VERY VERY acoustical rock band. Most of their songs are slow and melodic, not rock like Lunkhead at all.. But anyway, they're REALLY famous, so there's no need to introduce them too much! ahahaha... Here's my favourite song by Bump, Hana no Na.

It has damnnnn nice lyrics too!!!

My favourite parts are...

一緒に見た空を忘れても 一緒にいた事は忘れない
(Even if we forget the skies that we saw together, I won't forget when we were together)

僕だけに 歌える唄がある
あなただけに 聴こえる唄がある
あなただけに 歌える唄がある
僕だけに 聴こえる唄がある
(there is a song only I can sing, only you can hear,
there is a song only you can sing, only I can hear)

皆 会いたい人がいる 皆 待っている人がいる
会いたい人がいるのなら それを待っている人がいる
(Everyone, has someone they want to meet. Everyone has someone they are waiting for,
If you have someone wanting to see you, there is that someone who is waiting for you)

あなただけに 歌える唄がある
僕だけに 聴こえる唄がある
僕だけを 待っている人がいる
あなただけに 会いたい人がいる
(There is a song only you can sing,
only I can hear.
There is someone is waiting only for me,
There is someone who only wants to see you)

Well it's kinda lost in translation... But seriously, it's super sweet. And wonderful song too!!

Check it!

Tsubaki - Portrait+ (つばき - Portrait+)

  • 0
Alright, I didn't really want to review any old Lunkhead or Tsubaki stuff because I think it's just being biased! hahaha..

BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTT........

I just find that I MUST highlight Tsubaki's album, Portrait+.

Why?

Because it's an Unbelievable album.

Seriously.

I am a Tsubaki fan, but I must say that Portrait+ is like a stroke a sudden genius. It just stands out from their other albums. Their other albums, even the latest one after Portrait+, the songs in those albums still sound raw sometimes, like unshaped diamonds. Their songs are usually really good rock songs, and some of them brilliant even, but they still sound not-as-refined, still rough on the edges.

Portrait+ however, is like a song off a MAJOR album. One of those perfectly crafted, meant for Oricon Top 10 albums, kind of songs and tunes and production.

Seriously, if you listen to whole of Tsubaki's discography, you can just tell that Portrait+ is different. It was different differently, recorded differently, made differently, and sounds really different from their songs.

The songs in Portrait+ just sounds... whole. Like complete. Incredibly well composed (ala Oricon top 10), incredibly well produced (refined, enlarged, encapsulates).

Seriously, I really love the songs and think they're all brilliant, from the very first tune, Nightbreak, to the very last one, over. Those two even are one of my persona favorites!

Of course, I love many of Tsubaki's old songs, especially those on Yume Miru Machi Made (夢見る街まで) and Ano hi no sora ni... (あの日の空に踵を鳴らせ)...

BUT, if I were to introduce Tsubaki to a friend who doesn't listen to Japanese music, I'd always, always recommend Portrait+... Because that album is incredibly well composed and well made! Seriously~! I think it's a solid album that would interest any non-listener.

It'd most definitely be a hit, not a miss with Portrait+.

Anyway, My FAVS off Portrait+ are:

Portrait+
- ナイトブレイク
- ブラウンシュガーヘア(album ver.)
- バタフライ
- 赤い扉
- 瞬き(+TAK ver.)
- 世界の終わりと僕の歌
-
- over
- 花火
Dude, this means i am favourable and love 10/12 of the songs on the album. Bold are my absolute favs. Dude, BUTTERFLY rocks!!!

Anyway, I like their other albums too okay!!!

Kakusei World (覚醒ワールド)
- 覚めた生活
- 青い月
- さよなら、嘘つきな二人
- タブレット
- 羽の在処

Yume Miru Machi Made (夢見る街まで)
- めまい
- 昨日の風
- 土曜の午後
- 夢見る街

Ano hi no sora ni kakato wo narase (あの日の空に踵を鳴らせ)
- 青
- 雨音
- アセロラ
- 新しい世界
- 曖昧な夜
- 君のヒゲ
- 悲しい鳥
- 猫
- 夕暮れ
- サヨナラ
Actually, I REALLY love this album too and I think it's an incredible album too! But, it's not as radio friendly, I think!!!!

Yoru to Asa no Sukima ni (夜と朝の隙間に)

- ループ
- 風向き
- 冬の話
Fuyu no Sora ROCKS!

Here's a mix of Tsubaki's songs ^_^

NICO Touches The Walls

Hehe, translated to Malay it would be NICO sentuh dinding-dinding... haha...

Anyway, this weekend's checked out band was NICO Touches The Walls. Quite a good Japanese rock band. They have quite a lot of English in their songs (more than the average Japanese songs).

I've just checked them out the last two days, so not much of a two cents yet. They're similar to J-rock bands like Lunkhead, LOST IN TIME, Syrup16g, and the likes (you get the idea: the same circle of bands; otherwise I wouldn't have stumbled across them ;)). Of Course, they do seem to have their own style of rock. Like I mentioned, they seem to have alot of English influence, so their sounds are quite non-Japanese.

They're a four piece band signed to Ki/oon Records that brought us all Asian Kung-Fu Generation. Woo~

So here's NICO Touches The Walls 「夏の雪」 "Natsu no Yuki" from their Single "Broke Youth" that is featured in the ending song of the anime, Naruto.

Stereophonics

Britpop is not dead. Well, actually, maybe it is.

Anyway, was looking for ENGLISH SONGS yo~~~~

Anyway, I've been watching 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, and man! The soundtrack is great!! REALLY brit pop??? Seriously, it really made me miss those good old 90s Brit Pop era, so I decided to try find some bands...

Was suppose to check out Oasis' new album but I've not got round to it yet. However, been trying some Stereophonics and found a good one "Dakota".

Has those driving chord progressions and guitar riffs that remind me of the good old days of 90s Brit Pop... Good stuff.

Here it is!! English song at last!

Woah!!!

Have been watching the anime "Gintama" lately! Fuji-san recommended it and I decided to check it out!

And~~~ The first ending song was really great!!! It's called Mr. Raindrop by amplified.

Amplied, apparently, consists of three 17-year-old boys from Hong Kong who are now studying in America. They got signed to Sony after they submitted their demo to Sony Japan's Sound Development Section. Awesome!

Anyway, it's a really cute song!

Here is the video to the Gintama Ending, featuring Mr. Raindrop by amplified. (The animation is just so cute and suitable for this song!! Elizabeth is so cute!! haha)

Damn! Been checking out alot of good bands lately!

Anyway, randomly checked out this band "serial TV drama". I thought they were a TV drama but they're a band hahaha!

Anyway! They're a really good modern rock/melodic rock band! They have very solid melodic rock tunes. Damn good ones, actually! And, except for everything being sung in Japanese, actually, their sound is incredibly American. And, they totally don't sound like an indie band. Also, they have a lil bit of screamo in some of the songs, yeah..

This is one of my favourite song, まえぶれ (Maebure).

Please check it!

Don't ask... I don't know why they're called butter butter, of all the names in the world to choose.

Anyway, the band I checked out today is the Japanese rock band "butter butter". Checked out their album ミナモ (Minamo)...

The album is quite good. One of those good rock albums, no indie stuff in here ;)

Anyway, here's the song I liked the best from the album, tawny daylily (I have no idea what it means yo~). It's one of those power melodic rock songs. Really catchy, yet solid rock song. Reminds me of those 90s American Alternative Rock songs, actually.

Please check it out!

Paunch Wheel (パウンチホイール)

Today, I checked out the J-Indie band, Paunch Wheel. Odaka-kun mentioned in the Lunkhead blog about going for Paunch Wheel's live. Isshiki-san also mentioned going for a friend's live too. I think they were referring to the same show-- but anyway, ODK was great enough to mention the band's name, so I went to check them out! (Well! Anything that Yoshitaro listens to and likes, I'd sure love to check out!)

However, I couldn't find anything on this band except for what's on their myspace music player. At times like these, I really wish Malaysia had a store like

Anyway, from their myspace page, they seem to be a J-rock band-- with slow acoustic songs, some alternative rock sounds, and one that is a bit punk-rockish.

Today's song that I chose is 「日記」(Nikki/Diary)... I really love the part that goes: 「 好きな人がそこにいるの 瞼の裏にそれでいいの 君を好きな私はきっと毎日楽しいの 今恋をしているの」

Anyway, I hope I can get their album one day =) I think they're really worth checking out! Really good band, it's amazing they're still indie!

Today's band is Setsuna Blue Star. I forgot how I came across them, but I think I was randomly searching a J-rock/J-indie fan's myspace and happened across a really long katakana band name I couldn't understand haha... And wallah! A google later, I found Setsuna Blue Star.

Unfortunately, like Paunch Wheel before this, I couldn't find any other (downloadble) media by this band except for what's on their myspace page. (thankfully, at least these bands had myspace pages!)

Anyway, they're a Japanese rock band, abit like Pauch Wheel, except, a little more melodic rock-ish. I really like their songs and I hope I can get a hold of their CDs one day! They're really worth checking out! Doesn't sound like an unsigned indie band at all!

This is the song I liked best from their myspace page, it's called 「うたかたは今」 (Utakata wa Ima). Sounds like those old Chinese songs with a tang of Waltz and played to a rock beat! Yeah!!!

SO........! Randomly downloaded a song from a Japanese message board I check out and I found this song by this band Chatmonchy!

They're a FEMALE rock band!!! From Shikoku no less! (Where beloved Lunkhead and つばき hails from too~)

After checking out that one song, I went to look for other songs and they're really good too! I really like their songs. They have really powerful rock ballads. Those types that start out soft then builds up to a monumental climax. Really wonderful!

At first I thought the lead singer's voice was too much like Shiina Ringo, really high pitched. However, with more listen, she has her own style that's different from Shiina Ringo, of course.

Please check out Chatmonchy, サラバ青春 (Saraba Seishun)

Noel Gallagher Attacked

  • 0
Oasis star Noel Gallagher was admitted to hospital after being pushed over during the band's set at the V Festival in Toronto, Canada on Sunday.

According to the band's website, the star "fell heavily onto his monitor speakers". He may have fractured his rib and sustained ligament damage.

The 41-year-old was playing guitar during a performance of Morning Glory when a stage invader pushed him over.

Oasis have hinted that a gig on Tuesday may be cancelled as a result.

Fans have been asked to keep checking the band's website for updates on the show, which is due to take place in London, Ontario.

Assault charge

Gallagher's attacker was hauled to the ground by security guards. The guitarist's younger brother Liam, who was singing, had to be restrained from retaliating.

The incident was captured on video by a fan in the audience and posted on the YouTube website.

Oasis left the stage immediately after the attack, but the show resumed a few minutes later.

Gallagher's assailant was detained in police custody and will be charged with assault, according to the statement on Oasis' website.

The festival gig came as the band prepare to complete their North American tour, which ends in New York on Friday.

Gallagher has yet to comment on the incident on the blog which he has been updating throughout the tour.

Well.... No one's to say we didn't see this coming. But, I still think, the band doesn't deserve the criticism (or the punches) that they get. Poor Noel. Maybe, once a fan, always a fan, even if their new stuff... lack.... luster.

However, rip off band or not, they had great amazingly memorable tunes. We have to give them credit for that. Oasis will always be Oasis and a great band to me for tunes like Live Forever, Whatever, Slide Away, Champainge Supernova, Don't Look Back In Anger... that were the resounding amthems of our hearts at that time.

I still believe that like the Beatles for Gallagher's generation, when my generation looks back at the good ol' days, I'd just have to say that Oasis back in 94 - 97, were one of the great music giants of our time.

And hell, I'd pick ANY Oasis 94 - 97 B-Side over any Top 10 Modern Rock crap these days. Thanks, but with that alone, I think Oasis Rocked.

Albeit the past tense.

Alright, so here's to Oasis. Also, one of Isshiki-san's original 今日のー曲.

So... I was thinking of changing or altering the format and purpose of this blog... Wanted it to be something to introduce bands, but I was also thinking of just posting up about the bands or songs I check out for the day or that week.

It's really odd but Isshiki-san (of Tsubaki), really inspires me. The vast variety of songs and bands he listens to and checks out just amazes me. It's not just Japanese bands, but American and British bands as well... And it's often these indie bands that he'd post about on the Tsubaki blog. It really amazes me and I'm really encouraged and inspired by him. It really makes me feel like I should really listen to more music and check out more bands.

So, in the spirit of Isshiki-san's wealth of music exposure that is so inspiring, I want to challenge myself to check out at least 1 or more bands/album each week!

So, I'm gonna try to put those songs of bands that I check out up here too =)

So, to that essence, here's one of Isshiki-san's own 今日の一曲 recommendation!

Too bad they broke up this year. Syrup16g, another one of the pioneers father of J-rock/J-indie scene... I suppose! Great band!!!

Been listening to this song lately. One of their slower and melancholic songs, yet tinged with a certain beauty of the guitars... However, actually I love the emotional intensity of the chorus when it breaks into a stream of churning guitars and flowing chords like a...... waltz, actually!

But I really like this song's flow, it's really forward moving yet, really mellow at the same time... Not slow and depressing but, quiet and driving. Does that make sense?!

Anyway check it!

Tsubaki [つんつんつばき]

Tsubaki's online radio show "Tun Tun Tsubaki"! I've heard of it for awhile but never bothered to check it out (as always!). But boredom drove me there and dammit! It was a treasure trove!

On the radio show, they actually have a special jam session, whereby fans or listeners would write lyrics based on a theme given and Tsubaki will come up with a tune...

So! It was like finding a treasure trove of other Tsubaki acoustic songs!!!

Albeit, Tsubaki has never come up an acoustic song as great as Lunkhead's Tsuki to Tenohira (will any band EVER?!?!), I've always enjoyed their "omake" type acoustic songs, notably like "a stupid song" (bonus extra for the Portrait+ album), and "Good Morning" (Shinjuku Tower Records bonus extra for Kakusei World). So, it was really wonderful to find sooooooooooo many other Tsubaki acoustic songs (you can imagine how many, since the show started in 2006).

I thought they're incredibly amazing to come up with such tunes, even though it's just for fun, and while not all of them are great, there are one or two that are quite notable, and so far (till the parts I've checked out), there was one REALLY AMAZING one.

Here it is, today's tune. it's called "Sakura" from Vol.47 of Tun Tun Tsubaki iradio program.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh~~~ The song that defined my life =)

"Being grown up isn't half as fun as growing up, these are the best days of our lives. The only thing that matters is just following your heart and eventually we'll finally get it right."

Well, let's hope so Kris, let's hope you might be right... at least just abit.

Ahhh... Art-School, one of the... hmm shall I say, pioneering, J-rock/J-indie bands... This band's songs are beginning to grow on me too.

I like a number of their songs. But I have no idea why but this week, I just had this urge to keep listening to this song.

It was just after an entirely crappy week at work, with thirty thousand problems involving my students just cascading together into a great collapse... But anyway, as I was frantically driving to my house to look for some forms that I couldn't afford to lose, and finally ALL the crises were over and I was heading back to SriKDU... It felt almost as if a cloud had cleared and I just had this incredible urge to listen to Art-School's Boku ga Kimi Dattara.

This is one of Art-Schools (rare??) slower and more melancholic sounding songs (I don't quite know what the song means, so i can't comment on the contents!)

So here it is!

Asian Kung-Fu Generation - 未だ見ぬ明日に (EP)

Decided to give Ajikan a try again!!! And I'm really happy with their new EP~~!!! I really like it!!! In my opinion, this is their first album in a really long time to carry their old music style that I loved alot~!

Meaning, I guess, stop messing around with sounds and really making real rock songs!! I really like this album, and I love the title song the most 「未だ見ぬ明日に」 (Mada Minu Ashita ni). It is really one solid rock song, from first beat to the very last! Back to the good old days...

I guess, it's kinda sad, because I really, really loved Ajikan alot once... I mean, it's really the first Japanese rock band I love back in those days when they were just getting famous!! And they ARE the first band I was crazy enough to fly to Japan, hitched my ass down to Fukuoka to see... And I was really, really, blest to have been able to see them at a small club, just before they got big, and while they were on a tour of all the songs I liked.

So anyway, today's song is 「未だ見ぬ明日に」 (Mada Minu Ashita ni) from their EP of the same title!

Base Ball Bear is definitely growing on me. I thought they were too dancable for my liking but I thought Luis would love them (maybe like 3 years ago). They remind me of bands like Hey Mercedes and Hot Rod Circuit that Luis used to listen to alot and dance to at shows, really rocking out and most of all dancable.

The tune today, Kyousoukyoku (concerto), is one of their slower more rockish tune from their album Juunana-sai (十七歳)(Seventeen). I really like this song because this song is one of those anthem-like last songs (ala Finch's Ender, Third Eye Blind's God of Wine, Oasis' Champaign Supernova), starting off with a really slow beat that slowly builds up to a rockish end. I especially love it when the last beats of the song breaks into the line song breaks into the line:

『君が好き』(I like you)

And after that it a crescendo of guitars and the drums pours in and culminate (for me) into the line:

『すべてが君を幸せにする』((It is) All for your happiness)

Wonderful!

Been listening to this Tsubaki song lately、Katamichi Kippu (One Way Ticket). I kinda liked it before this, when I first ripped it off the Best Album compilation. Then I forgot about it, but somehow, it has emerged again and I can't stop listening to it.

Another of Tsubaki's solid rock songs from their album. A very dancable, rocking out song that's both powerful and inspiring (and apparently, with my limited Japanese, the words seems to be quite inspiring).
The parts that are the most driving is the bridge to last chorus all the way to the end of the song, where guitar vocalist, Isshiki Noriyasu, sings:

『飛び出したらそこから 未だ見えぬ世界へ
繋がっていられるさ 君が君でいれるなら
その手を伸ばして 手に入れたものは
君が君で いるための未来だろう

戻れない日々と片道キップ 見つけ出した自分と向き合って
君は飛び出した未だ見ぬ世界へ 歌い続けるさ
もうさよならさ』

I thought some of his best singing was in this song at those parts.

Katamichi Kippu can be found on the albums, Yume Miru Machi Made (夢見る街まで) and Best Early Collection 2002-2004:

Male rock fans likely to vote Republican: survey

  • 0
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - If you are male and a Led Zeppelin fan, chances are you may be leaning toward voting Republican in the U.S. presidential election, according to a survey of rock radio fans released on Wednesday.

The Jacobs Media's Media/Technology Web Poll IV of more than 27,000 respondents cited stronger than expected interest in the November 2008 election among fans of rock, classic rock, and alternative radio stations.

It also found that John McCain, the Republican candidate for U.S. president, was the top pick for the Oval Office for men and classic rock partisans -- those people who tune in to stations playing music from the "original classic rock era" of 1964 to 1975, comprised of bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who and Pink Floyd.

Jacobs Media said the survey, conducted among 69 U.S. rock-formatted stations in markets as diverse as Los Angeles and Knoxville to Buffalo, found 84 percent of the respondents planned to vote in the November election.

"People are clearly engaged by this election, even rockers. A lot of stations tend to shy away from politics because it's so polarizing, but this data suggests they'd better find a way to talk about politics this fall to keep listeners interested," said Fred Jacobs, president of Jacobs Media. He said the company threw the political questions in as an afterthought and was surprised by the results.

The survey was conducted in late February and early March.

About 30 percent of the respondents called themselves Democrats, while nearly 22 percent described their politics as Republican and 21 percent declared they were independents.

About 26 percent of the respondents either named a different party, preferred not to answer, or refused to categorize themselves.

The survey found women and fans of alternative radio, featuring '80s and '90s rock, tend to be Democratic, while men and classic rockers lean Republican.

Asked about their overall presidential preference, Democrat Barack Obama led the pack with 26 percent support among those planning on voting in the November election.

McCain ranked second with 22 percent and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton drew 18 percent.

There were also a fair share of write-in votes. Mickey Mouse ranked as the top presidential choice of 11 respondents, and singer Ted Nugent was written in by three members of the Rock sample.

I thought this article was quite interesting. Certainly more to read about it and why the results might be the way it is. But then again, if you talk about the roots of "alt. rock" and the likes, if it is the (great great great) grandchild of a counter culture, the essense of that spirit should still be within the veins of the genre, as much as it is now removed from its roots.

Ok, so it's two songs for today ;)

First!

(夕凪の橋) Yuunagi no Hashi by (音速ライン) Onsoku Line

Good jindie/jrock band! They're usually more indie rock, with slower, beautiful melodic rock. This song starts out slow then with distrotions from guitars and muffled vocals. But wonderful nevertheless, very powerful., actually, quite different from their other songs...

Second:

ボニー&クライド Bonnie and Clyde by 髭(HiGE)

Another good jrock band! Their songs are quite rockish, punctuated with some slower tunes. I like this song because it has a really catchy tune!

(I wrote this on one of the pages in my journal back in July 2003 "TAKING BACK SUNDAY IS PLAIN AWESOME". Then, when we went for the Jimmy Kimmel live in September, Adam came out to thank the people who were waiting outside. I suddenly had the idea to write down "So tell me Adam, what do you think of TBS?" and ask him to write down his answer!)

So, that should kinda give you a faint hint of what TBS meant to me! hahaha.

I used to love TBS alot.... They will still always be on my Top 10 band list... always. That hasn't changed and it would not.

But otherwise, things have changed. And TBS has changed too. By this I mean how they sound, how they look, and what they represent, perhaps. I've not been to their live shows since 2006, so I'm not too sure how that has change. But I remember the last show I went to, and the one I walked out from, was in Mansfield, MA. I walked out the moment I walked into this HUGE ASS, 5000 people capacity outdoor arena, and the stage was 200 meters away. Screw that.

But, I remember going for TBS shows back then was always like this instantaneous cure to depression for me. (one that i severely need right now). I remember I once told Michelle after the House of Blues Sunset Strip show that I wish I could encapsulate the feeling for a TBS show into a pill, I'd take the pill everyday! And that's exactly what I loved about TBS, about their shows. It was tremendous! It was this nuclearlike energy rolled into a single moment, in a single spot, into the mic and the mosh pit!

The thing about Taking Back Sunday is that, for me, there's a certain timelessness to their songs. Whether it was back in 2002 or now in 2008, in Malaysia, then America, their mosh pits, or back full circle now in Malaysia, everytime I listen to their song, the intensity and drive of their song still capture me time and time again-- It's just really powerful and uplifting!

Seriously, wouldn't anyone who have ever heard Cute Without the E not say that even after listening to that song a thousand times for the past 7 years, when you listen to Cute without the E, won't you just sing, scream and tap along??

Well, of course, Taking Back Sunday's sound has evolved alot through the years. And, as the genre from which TBS rose from has grown and saturated tremendously, so has TBS' sound very much changed and morphed into something very different from what they first were.

All the songs in their debut album, Tell All Your Friends, has a raw intensity to them that is not faked, forced or constructed, with your eye on the scope down the barrel of a gun wearing your heart on your sleeves. And to me, it is this rawness, this intensity that I love about Taking Back Sunday-- because it simply draws you in, makes you wanna rock out, lose yourself, die in breathlessness and then be uplifted in the gasps of that breathlessness, scream and turn your insides out!

And it is this that I feel that the later albums try to contruct, diguise, reengineer but it's still not the same. There are, of course, good rock songs in the later album, but the same raw intensity is not there-- The songs are good and they make great songs live! But.... somehow, it's not the same as screaming and dying and living in that 3 minutes 30 seconds of Cute Without The E! ;)

So, of course, as a fan who fell in love with TBS through Tell All Your Friends, that album remains to me, my favourite, hands down. Not to say that I disregard the later albums Where You Want to Be and Louder Now, but I still very much prefer and still regard Tell All Your Friends as the best TBS album yet.

But despite everything, whether it is old or new, I think there's is a song in Taking Back Sunday for any listener! Especially if you're the type who can't help but scream along!

SO! 今日の一曲:-

Today's song is obviously TBS!

Cute Without the "E" live at Valentines 2002!

Hmmm... this is not the best version to introduce the band! But this version absolutely encapsulates the experience that is Taking Back Sunday..... well at least, what it was to me back then!

However, for some, I remember Rie commenting to me that she didn't enjoy TBS live because she was more worried about Adam swinging the mic around and he wasn't singing for half the time because he was swinging the mic around hahaha! But then again, that was Japan, and it seems that the Japanese crowd do go to shows to actually LISTEN to the songs live! So that's a major difference too ;)

Anyway, please enjoy! (and check out their other non-live songs too!)

Well, this 5-piece melodic pop rock band from Florida has come a long way from where they started. Their sound has changed tremendously since their debut album, Nothing Gold Can Stay, back in 1999. Starting with tunes that were more melodic punk, they have gradually become, well, pop-rock by their latest full-length album Coming Home in 2006. It's amazing what the music industry does to you huh!!

Last year, they released a Hits album.

My 200円:

I used to love New Found Glory, ALOT. In fact, the first REAL concert I went to was NFG's show in London back in 2002.

I found out about them when I first liked pop-punk, through Blink-182. ANDDDD... actually, it was because of New Found Glory that I discovered Drive Thru Records and was pulled into the whole scene back in 2001.

New Found Glory's tunes started out quite pop-punk. It definitely had the riffs, yet really catchy tunes. However through time, their sound gradually softened and became more and more poppish , melodic, and mellow... From the likes of 2's & 3's, It Never Snows In Florida, Winter of '95, to tunes like I Don't Want To Know, Bloulders, etc, it's quite a startling difference... Not to say that the new albums were just all melodic and mellow, but, the later songs are definitely more crew-cut, hahaha, can i say that?? But that's how it feels anyway....!

Anyway, the first two albums, Nothing Gold Can Stay and the self-titled album, remain as my favourite NFG albums. Solid pop-punk songs, catchy yet rocking out.

If you're looking for those good ol' (LONG GONE) melodic punk songs, do check out their first two albums.... If you're looking for something more soothing and feel good tunes, then check out the later albums :)

New Found Glory, apparently, will be releasing a new EP featuring 3 new songs and 2 covers in April.

Hello World!

So I have decided to make a music blog....!!!

It was encouraged by Luis and Pearly-- Luis who have been urging me to start a music blog for a long time now.

I like music alot! Although, I feel I don't check out enough bands, as compared to someone like Luis. And I like talking about music alot too. I like recommending music and promoting bands to others!

Since I'm stuck as a school teacher at the mo (and can't land myself a dream job writing about music professionally and that even monkeys can blog), I'm going to make this blog as a way for me to force myself to check out more bands, and also a place for me to talk about bands by way of introductions and reviews!

Nice??

Well I hope so anyway.

This site also has a SISTER SITE over at jugem.jp!!! (i love the layout on that one!!)

This blog, and the title of this blog "Kyou no Ikkyoku" (Today's Tune), was inspired by Isshiki Noriyasu (一色徳保) of the Japanese rock band Tsubaki (つばき). He had this short Today's Tune recommendation on his blog posts last year and I thought that was really nice! I thought it especially cool too because he listens to alot of types of music, not just Japanese or American or British. So I thought it'd be nice to have a Today's Tune too!

So we'll start the first post with Tsubaki themselves!

The Birthday - Press Factory

Well, for some reason the Japanese website I go to to download stuff suddenly had alot of albums from this band, so, I decided to random download it!

This song, Press Factory, is pretty cool! It sounds REALY brit pop, like a cross between Stereophonics and Pulp with a twang of The Cure (perhaps!). Their other songs don't sound like this tho...They're definitely more Cure in the other songs.... But I really liked this song!

Check it!
