Tsubaki - Portrait+ (つばき - Portrait+)

Alright, I didn't really want to review any old Lunkhead or Tsubaki stuff because I think it's just being biased! hahaha..

BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTT........

I just find that I MUST highlight Tsubaki's album, Portrait+.

Why?

Because it's an Unbelievable album.

Seriously.

I am a Tsubaki fan, but I must say that Portrait+ is like a stroke a sudden genius. It just stands out from their other albums. Their other albums, even the latest one after Portrait+, the songs in those albums still sound raw sometimes, like unshaped diamonds. Their songs are usually really good rock songs, and some of them brilliant even, but they still sound not-as-refined, still rough on the edges.

Portrait+ however, is like a song off a MAJOR album. One of those perfectly crafted, meant for Oricon Top 10 albums, kind of songs and tunes and production.

Seriously, if you listen to whole of Tsubaki's discography, you can just tell that Portrait+ is different. It was different differently, recorded differently, made differently, and sounds really different from their songs.

The songs in Portrait+ just sounds... whole. Like complete. Incredibly well composed (ala Oricon top 10), incredibly well produced (refined, enlarged, encapsulates).

Seriously, I really love the songs and think they're all brilliant, from the very first tune, Nightbreak, to the very last one, over. Those two even are one of my persona favorites!

Of course, I love many of Tsubaki's old songs, especially those on Yume Miru Machi Made (夢見る街まで) and Ano hi no sora ni...

BUT, if I were to introduce Tsubaki to a friend who doesn't listen to Japanese music, I'd always, always recommend Portrait+... Because that album is incredibly well composed and well made! Seriously~! I think it's a solid album that would interest any non-listener.

It'd most definitely be a hit, not a miss with Portrait+.

Anyway, My FAVS off Portrait+ are:

Portrait+
-
- over
Dude, this means i am favourable and love 10/12 of the songs on the album. Bold are my absolute favs. Dude, BUTTERFLY rocks!!!

Anyway, I like their other albums too okay!!!

Kakusei World (覚醒ワールド)

Yume Miru Machi Made (夢見る街まで)

Ano hi no sora ni kakato wo narase
Actually, I REALLY love this album too and I think it's an incredible album too! But, it's not as radio friendly, I think!!!!

Yoru to Asa no Sukima ni

Fuyu no Sora ROCKS!

Here's a mix of Tsubaki's songs ^_^

NICO Touches The Walls

Hehe, translated to Malay it would be NICO sentuh dinding-dinding... haha...

Anyway, this weekend's checked out band was NICO Touches The Walls. Quite a good Japanese rock band. They have quite a lot of English in their songs (more than the average Japanese songs).

I've just checked them out the last two days, so not much of a two cents yet. They're similar to J-rock bands like Lunkhead, LOST IN TIME, Syrup16g, and the likes (you get the idea: the same circle of bands; otherwise I wouldn't have stumbled across them ;)). Of Course, they do seem to have their own style of rock. Like I mentioned, they seem to have alot of English influence, so their sounds are quite non-Japanese.

They're a four piece band signed to Ki/oon Records that brought us all Asian Kung-Fu Generation. Woo~

So here's NICO Touches The Walls 「夏の雪」 "Natsu no Yuki" from their Single "Broke Youth" that is featured in the ending song of the anime, Naruto.

Stereophonics

Britpop is not dead. Well, actually, maybe it is.

Anyway, was looking for ENGLISH SONGS yo~~~~

Anyway, I've been watching 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, and man! The soundtrack is great!! REALLY brit pop??? Seriously, it really made me miss those good old 90s Brit Pop era, so I decided to try find some bands...

Was suppose to check out Oasis' new album but I've not got round to it yet. However, been trying some Stereophonics and found a good one "Dakota".

Has those driving chord progressions and guitar riffs that remind me of the good old days of 90s Brit Pop... Good stuff.

Here it is!! English song at last!

Mr. Raindrop - amplified

Woah!!!

Have been watching the anime "Gintama" lately! Fuji-san recommended it and I decided to check it out!

And~~~ The first ending song was really great!!! It's called Mr. Raindrop by amplified.

Amplied, apparently, consists of three 17-year-old boys from Hong Kong who are now studying in America. They got signed to Sony after they submitted their demo to Sony Japan's Sound Development Section. Awesome!

Anyway, it's a really cute song!

Here is the video to the Gintama Ending, featuring Mr. Raindrop by amplified. (The animation is just so cute and suitable for this song!! Elizabeth is so cute!! haha)
